NEW MEXICO

New Mexico

New Mexico is a southwestern US state defined by its large, multicultural population and varied landscapes, which encompass desert, river valley, forest, and high mountain regions. Its population includes Spanish-speaking populations from the colonial period, Indian tribes that have been present for centuries, as well as large Hispanic, African-American, and Asian populations from recent immigration. Mountain ranges and deserts in the southwest—including the Rio Grande, the Chihuahuan Desert, and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains—are among the state's defining features.
