Florida's Gulf Coast is home to the city of Tampa in the United States, which includes the east and north shores of Old Tampa Bay within its boundaries. Tampa is the county seat of Hillsborough and the largest city in the Tampa Bay area, with a population of 384,959 as of the 2020 census. After Miami and Jacksonville, Tampa is the third-most populated city in Florida.
There are numerous museums in Tampa that cater to a wide range of interests and disciplines. These include the Tampa Museum of Art, USF Contemporary Art Museum, Tampa Bay History Center, Tampa Firefighters Museum, Henry B. Plant Museum, and Ybor City Museum State Park. In addition, the Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) features several levels of science exhibits, as well as Florida's only dome-shaped IMAX theater and a planetarium. The SS American Victory, a former World War II Victory ship turned museum, is permanently docked in the Channel District downtown. The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts also hosts a variety of exhibitions showcasing both domestic and international photography.
